A few weeks ago we imparted the workshop "Business in Design" at the Design DECODE Fest 2014, an event that celebrates design and its different aspects at a weekend full of conferences, workshops, expositions, screenings, parties and a lot more activities relates to design, creativity and innovation.
For us it is very important to understand that the field of action of a designer inside an industry is related with all the involved areas of the productive chain. By learning and taking advantage of the company’s intellectual value from different processes and materials, and also the culture inside the same company, manufacturer or brand.
To know in detail the different steps of a product’s development inside an industry, allows the designer to add something in each link of the chain of value, being involved in planning aspect, commercial strategy or even to improve the internal productive practices, developing not only new products but also designing new business opportunities.
At the "Business in Design" workshop we challenged the participants with a practical case, in order to go beyond form and function in a design exercise, stating probable scenarios, developing business strategies and generating competitive concepts that can be applied to new markets.
