Experience and environments design.
Design of public space comes in all shapes and sizes, and should serve a wide variety of purposes and needs. As the attention to the improvement of public spaces keeps growing, we focused in a project where we could transform an open space and grant it a sense of purpose, allowing to increment it’s use and benefits.
The goal is to create a place that has both a strong sense of community and a comfortable image, as well as a setting where various activities can take place that collectively add up to something bigger and transforms itself into an relevant place in the community where people want to be. It should instill a sense of pride in the people who live and work in the surrounding area.
We envisioned a space that can be used for various activities, from as small play and a communal gathering to a place to relax and enjoy the rest of your day. We valued the right balance between privacy and openness, designing a friendly structure that invites passers-by to enter.
The structure consists of a semi-circular bench 7 m in diameter with a 1.8m tall steps that slant gently on one side forming different levels to sit down, leaving a 3.5 m diameter “stage” at the centre of the structure where numerous activities can take place.

Proxemics and Form
In social situations people often speak with a normal voice level at a distance of 1 to 4m. In such case the voice level should not exceed 55-60 dB.
In open spaces and recreational areas, people often communicate with very loud or raised voice level at distances of 5 to 10m. In such cases the background noise should not exceed 45-55 dB.
For the design of the work piece was considered an area that could accommodate the personal distance of 4 persons, not exceeding the normal communication distance of open space which is 5 - 10m, resulting in an inner diameter of 3.5 m
